Republic takes bulky items at the curb, and the curb is the catch
Lake Oswego has been an incorporated city since 1910, so garbage runs through one franchised hauler, Republic Services, not the county. Republic picks up bulky items for a fee on top of your monthly bill. The city’s 2025 rate sheet is per item: $36.01 for a full-size couch, $42.07 for a king mattress set, $53.97 for a fridge, and $24.01 if they have to come back.
Two lines matter more than the prices. Appliances are priced “accessible at curb”, so the fridge has to be at the street first. And anything not on the list is billed at the cost of collection and disposal, matched to the nearest listed fee where possible, plus $114.04 for a truck and driver when the pickup needs an extra truck or extra people.
For one or two items you can carry to the curb yourself, Republic is the cheaper call. We start where the list ends: the item is downstairs, the garage is full, or there is more than you can count from the doorway.
A free drop-off day, and you do the lifting
The city and Republic run a free bulky waste and mattress drop-off for Lake Oswego residents. The city posts the next date; the drop-off is at the Republic yard on SW Ridder Road in Wilsonville. Furniture, mattresses, dryers, scrap metal and clean wood are accepted. Freon appliances, construction debris, paint and tires are not.
The fine print: bring only what you can unload from your own vehicle without staff help. If that works for you, use it. If the date is wrong, the couch does not fit in the car, or lifting it is not an option, we come to the room it is in.
What Lake Oswego homes actually hand us
First Addition. Platted in 1888 and 1925 as housing for the iron company’s workers, now mostly Craftsman bungalows and cottages on small lots with 20 foot alleys behind them. The alleys were laid out for trash removal and that is how we use them: the truck backs down the alley and we load from the back gate.
Lake Grove. Annexed in 1959, and mostly older homes on big wooded lots west of the lake. A lot of sheds, workshops and boat gear, and a garage that holds thirty years. The job is usually a half truck or more.
Mountain Park. A planned community on Mount Sylvania, started in 1968, with roughly 8,500 residents and one of the largest homeowners associations in the country. Condos and townhomes at one end, early 1970s single-level ranches in the middle. Shared parking and steep paths are common, so we plan the carry before the truck.
Westlake. Built in the 1980s and 1990s, two- and three-car garages on lots around 8,000 square feet. The usual Westlake job is a garage that became storage, or a move-out where the new floors go in next week.
Lakefront lanes and steep driveways
Oswego Lake is 405 acres, privately managed by the Lake Oswego Corporation, with more than 3,000 homes holding access through easements. Lakefront homes often sit below the road, down a driveway with no room to turn a 16 cubic yard truck around. We park at the top when we have to and hand-carry; the carry rule on this page says what that costs.
Mountain Park and Westlake both have HOAs with covenants. We do not need HOA approval to load a truck, but if yours limits what can sit on a driveway overnight, one visit means nothing waits at the curb.
Where your load goes and what it costs
Everything we take from Lake Oswego goes to Metro South Station in Oregon City, at 2001 Washington St. Metro charges $176.70 per ton with a $51 minimum, and that cost is built into our truck prices. TVs, monitors, computers and printers are free there, up to 7 items per day, so we do not surcharge them. See the full price ladder.
Lake Oswego questions
Is Republic’s bulky pickup cheaper than you? For one or two items at the curb, yes, and we will say so on the phone. Once the items are inside, or there are five of them, our $99 minimum usually wins.
Can you get a truck down a lakefront driveway? Sometimes. When we cannot, we park at the road and carry, which is normal here.
Do you take the fridge the drop-off event will not? Yes. Freon appliances, construction debris and tires all go on the truck. Paint and chemicals do not.
How fast can you get here? Usually within a day or two, sometimes the same day. Send photos to (360) 702-7327 and we quote the truck size before we drive down.
