What we usually walk into
Most appliance pickup calls are one dead unit with the new one still in the box. The old refrigerator is in the kitchen or the washer is in the laundry closet, and the delivery crew would not take it because it was not disconnected or not on the same floor.
In the ranch homes and split-levels on the Washington side, the washer and dryer usually sit a half flight down in the garage. In older Portland houses it is a chest freezer in the basement or a second fridge on the back porch. We also get the whole set, a remodel or a turnover where every appliance goes.
What it costs
A refrigerator or freezer is $129 booked online. A washer, dryer, dishwasher or range is $99 to haul away.
Three or more appliances usually price better by the truck: a quarter truck is $189 online and $209 by phone, a half truck $369 and $389. We confirm the size on site, before anything is loaded, and it never goes above the range you were shown unless you add items. A TV going out with an appliance is $49 instead of $89.
How the visit goes
We bring an appliance dolly with straps and blankets for the floors and door frames.
Empty the fridge or freezer and clear a path wide enough for a dolly. If you cannot be home, leave a door or gate code and we send before and after photos with the invoice. You do not need to drag it to the curb, pull the doors or tape it shut. We do that, and sweep after.
Where it goes
In Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR the order is the same, the stations differ. Clark County loads go to Central Transfer and Recycling or the Washougal Transfer Station, both run by Columbia Resource Company. A refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner is $24.91 there for refrigerant handling, and that is the coolant fee already in our $129. Everything else is by weight at $118.65 a ton.
Oregon loads go to Metro Central Station or Metro South Station. Coolant appliances are $30 each there, limit 5 a day. Metal dishwashers, water heaters, stoves, washers and dryers are free there, as are up to 7 electronics and up to 4 mattresses per trip.
First, though, a washer that runs or a fridge that holds cold goes to a donation partner when one will take it.
Appliances, or one of the neighboring services
Furniture removal is the couch, dresser and table by the piece, nothing to disconnect, no coolant fee. Mattress removal is $99 for the first piece and $30 for the second, and in Oregon those ride free at Metro. TV and electronics recycling is a different route: Washington bans TVs, monitors and computers from the landfill, so those go to a certified recycler, not the station. Hot tub removal is from $349 because it is cut down on site; a chest freezer comes out whole.
Before you book
Does the food have to be out, and does a freezer need defrosting? Yes to both. An iced-up freezer drips across the floor on the way out; a day unplugged with the door open is enough.
Can you get a fridge out of a basement or up from a split-level? Yes. Stairs beyond one flight add $25 per flight, and a tight stairwell just means the doors come off first.
The store would not take my old one. Is that what you do? Yes. We get rid of an old fridge or washer from wherever it sits, and the empty box from the new one can go on the truck with it.
