The city pickup is paid and Tuesdays only

Ridgefield has been an incorporated city since 1909, and inside the city limits garbage service is mandatory through Waste Connections. Ridgefield does not get the free annual bulky pickup that Vancouver customers get.

What you get is a paid curbside pickup. A sofa, a chair, a mattress or any other bulky item is $26.18 each, a fridge is $52.27, plus a trip fee of $82.20 an hour with a half-hour minimum, and the clock starts when the driver leaves the company yard on NE 94th Avenue in Vancouver. Pickups run on Tuesdays and you schedule up to a week ahead.

For one couch that can wait for Tuesday, that is cheaper than us, and we will say so. Everything else is where we start: three or four pieces, a garage, a move-out with a date on it, anything you cannot get to the curb yourself.

The one free option is the city’s Spring Clean Up, a single Saturday in April on South 11th Street. City residents only, the mailed flyer is your ticket, and it takes yard debris, scrap metal, electronics, up to 5 tires and up to 3 freon appliances. It does not take construction debris. That is ours.

A Ridgefield address is not always inside the city

Plenty of Ridgefield mail goes to houses outside the city limits. Those are unincorporated Clark County: still Waste Connections for the cart, but no Spring Clean Up flyer.

Our yard is in Battle Ground, about 20 minutes away.

What Ridgefield homes hand us

Downtown. The old grid around Overlook Park has houses going back to 1885, Craftsman bungalows and cottages on modest lots, and a lot of long-tenure owners. The calls are estate clears and downsizing, heavy loads: old furniture, tools, a freezer in the basement. Streets are tight and the ground drops toward Lake River, so we park where the truck fits and carry the rest.

Pioneer Canyon and the newer streets east of downtown. Small lots, some townhomes, a short run from exit 14. Usually no basement, and the garage is the only storage, so the job is usually a move-in or a move-out: the furniture the buyer did not want, flattened boxes, the old mattress.

Discovery Ridge and the mid-2010s subdivisions. Discovery Ridge went up around 2015 and 2016, homes of 1,800 to 3,300 square feet on sloping and greenbelt lots. They are at the age where the garage fills and the yard gets edited: swing sets, trampolines, a hot tub nobody uses. We carry uphill here more often than not.

The bigger lots on the edges. Early 2000s homes on larger plots usually have a shop or a shed, where a decade of mower, lumber and half-used paint goes. We take the mower and the lumber. Paint we decline.

Growth is the job here

Between 2014 and 2024 Ridgefield went from 6,175 people to 15,790, the fastest growth of any city in Washington over that stretch. Most subdivisions have an HOA, and new ones are required to.

So most of our Ridgefield work is move-related: sellers clearing before listing photos, buyers unloading what came with the house, new-build move-ins with a garage full of packaging. An HOA street is no place for a driveway pile or a rented bin at the curb for a week. We load in one visit and leave the driveway clear.

Where the load goes and what it costs

Usable furniture goes to donation first. TVs, monitors and computers go to WA E-Cycle, free, so we do not surcharge them. The rest goes to Central Transfer and Recycling, run by Columbia Resource Company, at $118.65 a ton plus a $10 transaction fee per trip, both inside our price.

The full ladder is at /pricing/.

Ridgefield questions

Does Ridgefield have a free bulky item pickup? No. City bulky pickup is paid, per item plus a trip fee, Tuesdays only. The April Spring Clean Up is free for city residents, but it is one Saturday a year and does not take construction debris.

Can you take what the Spring Clean Up turns away? Yes. Construction and remodel debris is a normal load for us, and so is anything that cannot wait for April; the full list is at /what-we-take/. Paint, chemicals and propane we decline, and the event’s hazardous waste station takes those.

Do I have to be home? No, if the pile is in the driveway or the garage is open. Text a photo to (360) 702-7327 and we will tell you the truck size and price before we come.

How fast can you get to Ridgefield? Often the same day. Book a 2-hour window at /book/ and the calendar shows what is open.
