City bulky pickup is $20 plus the item, if the item is easy to reach

Hillsboro has been an incorporated city since 1876, so garbage runs on city franchises: six private haulers split the city, your address is assigned to one of them, and the city sets the same rates for all of them.

A bulky pickup is $20 per trip plus a charge for each piece: $32 for a couch, $26 for a recliner, $40 for a fridge or freezer, $32 for a king mattress and $8 for a twin. Mattresses have to be wrapped in plastic. Two catches. The item has to be in the driveway, the garage or on a front porch with no stairs, or the hauler sends a second driver and bills the extra time by the hour. And the bulky truck does not take computers, monitors or TVs at all.

Fine for one couch at the curb. Not fine when the couch is upstairs, the freezer is in a detached shed, or there are 15 things instead of 1. That is where we start. We carry from wherever it sits, we take the electronics, and one visit clears the lot.

What half a city of renters hands us

About half of Hillsboro households rent, and the typical home here dates from the mid 1990s.

Tanasbourne is a lot of large apartment complexes that went up in the 1990s when Intel hiring filled them with young professionals. Move-outs there are a sofa, a bed frame, a desk and 20 boxes against a lease date. Give us the building and the loading zone when you book.

Orenco Station was designed with narrower streets and garages on the alleys. We bring the truck down the alley when it fits and carry from the street when it does not. One flight of stairs is in the price. Extra flights are $25 each.

Downtown Hillsboro is the old core, with older houses near Main Street, Craftsman bungalows among them, plus basements, attics and detached garages nobody has fully opened in years. Downtown streets are two-hour parking, and once the two hours are up you cannot re-park on that block for the rest of the day, so a full-house job there is scheduled as a run of loads, not a truck parked all afternoon.

Reedville sits between Hillsboro and Aloha and is still partly unincorporated. If your Reedville address is outside the city line, the county bulky rate sheet applies instead of the city one.

The relocation angle

Intel’s largest site is in Hillsboro, spread over three main campuses, and a lot of the people we meet here arrived for a job or are leaving for one. Relocation junk has a shape: shipping crates, pallets, a garage of boxes never unpacked from the last move, a corporate apartment that has to be empty by Friday.

E-waste is the other regular. Old monitors, towers and printers pile up in a tech town, and the curbside bulky truck refuses them. Metro takes up to 7 electronics per trip free, so we do not surcharge them.

Where a Hillsboro load goes

What cannot be donated goes to Metro Central Station on NW 61st Avenue in Portland. Metro charges $176.70 per ton with a $51 minimum, and that fee is already inside our price. Metro takes up to 4 mattresses and box springs per trip free, so a bedroom set costs you truck space and nothing more.

We are about 70 minutes from Hillsboro and the Metro run is part of the day, so a big cleanout is one load in the morning and the second after the dump run. See the price ladder.

Hillsboro questions

Do I have to use my assigned hauler for a couch? No. The franchise covers your weekly cans. A bulky pickup is optional, and you can book a window with us instead.

Can you clear an Orenco Station townhome? Yes. Alley access and stair carries are normal for us there. One flight is in the price, extra flights are $25 each, and a third floor or higher adds $25 to the job. Send photos of each floor to (360) 702-7327 and we will size the truck before we come.

Will an apartment move-out in Tanasbourne fit the $99 minimum? A couch and a couple of chairs, yes. A full one-bedroom is usually a quarter or half truck. See what we take.

Is Reedville priced differently? No. Either side of the city line, the price is the same.
