Hazel Dell does not get the free city pickup, and most people do not know it
Hazel Dell is unincorporated Clark County, not part of the City of Vancouver. That distinction costs you something specific.
City of Vancouver households with Waste Connections service get one free curbside bulky item pickup each calendar year, up to five items, each under 100 pounds. Hazel Dell households do not. The hauler out here is the same Waste Connections of Washington, but a bulky pickup at an unincorporated address is a paid service, priced by item and by where you live. If you want to confirm which rules your address falls under, the county solid waste division is at 564-397-7352.
If you have tried to book the free city pickup and been told you are not eligible, this is why.
So for a couch, a fridge, a mattress or a garage that has gotten away from you, the realistic options are the paid hauler pickup, your own trailer and a Saturday at Central Transfer and Recycling, or us.
Same price as Vancouver, no travel fee
Our yard is in Battle Ground, and Hazel Dell is about 25 minutes from it. That does not change what you pay. See the full price ladder.
A Hazel Dell load goes to Central Transfer and Recycling on NE 117th Avenue, which is a short run from you. On a big clear-out that matters: we can fill the truck, dump it and be back for the second load without a long gap.
You get a 2-hour arrival window.
What Hazel Dell homes are usually full of
Hazel Dell was one of the first parts of the county to build out after the Second World War, and a lot of the housing is still 1950s through 1970s ranches and split-levels. That changes what the work looks like.
Carports instead of garages. A lot of these homes have an open carport, or a detached garage set back off the driveway. Things pile up in the open and they pile up for a long time. We back in where we can and carry where we cannot.
Detached garages and backyard sheds. Separate structures, often original to the house, often untouched for 20 years. Old paint, rusted tools, a mower that stopped running in a previous decade.
Long-tenure owners. This is a neighborhood where people stay. A lot of our Hazel Dell work is downsizing, estate clears and adult children emptying a parent’s house: whole-house jobs rather than single items. We work room by room and we are not in a hurry with you.
Manufactured-home communities along Highway 99. Tight lots, narrow lanes, limited turnaround. We park where the truck fits and carry the rest.
What no free program would take anyway
Even the city program you do not get excludes a list, and the same items are the ones that sit in Hazel Dell driveways the longest:
- Refrigerators, freezers and AC units, because of the refrigerant
- TVs, monitors and computers
- Concrete, lumber, drywall and other demolition debris
- Tires
- Paint, chemicals and fluorescent bulbs
We take everything on that list except the paint, chemicals and bulbs. Those go to the household hazardous waste drop-off at the transfer station, and we will tell you when we quote so nothing gets left behind by surprise. TVs, monitors and computers carry no e-waste surcharge with us, because E-Cycle Washington recycles them free and we pass that on. You pay for the pickup, not the recycling. The full list is at what we take.
Hazel Dell questions
Is Hazel Dell part of Vancouver? No. It is unincorporated Clark County, and the city’s free annual bulky pickup does not apply to you.
Do I pay more because I am outside the city? No. The price is by truck volume and it is the same at every address we serve, with no travel fee.
Can you empty a detached garage that has not been opened in years? That is a normal Hazel Dell job for us. Text a photo to (360) 702-7327 and we will tell you what size truck it is before we come out.
How fast can you get to Hazel Dell? Often the same day, and always with a 2-hour arrival window. If we cannot make it today we will say so when you book, not after you have waited.
